Coal Facility Landing Site Cook Inlet, Alaska

Bathymetry and marine geophysical data were collected concurrently. Bathymetry was collected using a Reson 8124 multibeam echosounder. Multibeam data was collected across the entire site and processed, drafted and delivered to the design engineers. A sub-bottom profiler was used to collect data during the same field effort. The sub-bottom profiler was an EdgeTech 3200 with a SB-0521i towed vehicle. Sub-bottom data was used for trestle and dock design.

Acoustic Doppler Current Profiling (ADCP) was performed with both stationary installations and across transects. We operated an RDI ADCP mounted on catarafts for the stationary installations. The decision to mount the profilers on rafts enabled us to more carefully measure currents next to the sea floor; a part of the water column that has the greatest effect on shoaling and scouring. The stationary installations were equipped with satellite tracking equipment to monitor location. ADCP's were mounted on-board our vessels for the transects. Current measurements were collected from both transect and stationary installations and were correlated in the final report.
